Picking the Right Tuxedo For Your Formal Event
First of all, unlike a standard suit, there is no tuxedo to fit every and any occasion. Before you go any further with selecting the right attire, you will need to know the nature of the occasion. The things that will matter to you here would be the formality of the event, the time and also the nature of the dress code. Normally there are day wear tuxedo's as well as the night (dinner wear) variety, and they can both look wrong if worn at the wrong time of day.
If you have a morning or afternoon event, like a wedding ceremony for example, you might opt for a cutaway coat which normally comes in the form of a long, dark grey jacket and matching pants. For dinning or evening formal wear, the jackets are usually not as long. They usually come in regular length, and look more modest in appearance.
There are also tuxedos that come with long penguin tails. These ones should really only be worn for especially formal events - unless of course you really do want to mimic a penguin!

Unless you frequently attend formal dinners and such, you might not want to purchase a tuxedo of your own but instead rent one. Tuxedos are far from cheap and if you're only attending a prom night or other such once-off occasions, you should seriously consider rental. Most of these rental suits are either badly cut to fit, look really bland, or both! So make sure you try on as many jackets as it takes as nothing says you understand fashion better than a well-fitted suit or tux.
To help personalize your look, you might want to add in various different pieces of jewelry or embellishments like waistcoats or a pair of shiny cufflinks. ( By Amy M Chan )
